Solana currently dominates public decentralized exchange trading, while Canton generates the most chain fees despite having little presence in public DEX markets.

The contrast is visible in DeFiLlama’s latest rankings. Solana processed $3.54 billion in DEX trades over 24 hours and $80.96 billion over 30 days. Canton, meanwhile, generated $1.87 million in daily chain fees and $50.09 million over the past month.

Rather than identifying one blockchain as the overall activity leader, the numbers show how differently networks are being used. Solana’s strength comes from high-volume public trading, Canton is geared toward institutional financial infrastructure, and Robinhood Chain’s recent growth has been heavily influenced by activity around a fast-growing token launchpad.

Solana Has Nearly Twice Ethereum’s Monthly DEX Volume

Solana’s lead is visible across both short and longer time frames. Its $3.54 billion in 24-hour DEX volume is more than double Ethereum mainnet’s $1.64 billion. Over 30 days, the difference stands at $80.96 billion versus $42.79 billion, giving Solana roughly 89% more trading volume.

The rest of the leaderboard is considerably tighter. Robinhood Chain recorded $41.28 billion over 30 days, followed by BSC at $38.04 billion and Base at $29.28 billion.

Chain

DEX 24h

DEX 30d

Fees 24h

Fees 30d

Solana

$3.54B

$80.96B

$965,963

$23.33M

Ethereum

$1.64B

$42.79B

$515,024

$12.70M

Robinhood Chain

$1.60B

$41.28B

$312,597

$38.49M

BSC

$1.35B

$38.04B

$850,831

$21.58M

Base

$1.06B

$29.28B

$105,194

$5.28M

Canton

—

—

$1.87M

$50.09M

Source: DeFiLlama. DEX volume and chain fees measure different types of blockchain activity.

Ethereum’s position needs another qualification. DeFiLlama measures Ethereum mainnet separately from Layer 2 networks, so the $42.79 billion figure does not capture trading executed across the wider rollup ecosystem.

Base alone processed another $29.28 billion in DEX trades over 30 days, while Arbitrum added $6.50 billion. Simply adding those figures to Ethereum’s would not produce a clean chain-to-chain comparison, but ignoring them would also understate how much Ethereum-linked trading has moved away from L1 execution.

The same issue affects fee rankings. Ethereum mainnet generated $12.70 million in fees over 30 days, while Base and Arbitrum are reported separately at $5.28 million and $483,869, respectively.

Why Canton Can Lead Fees Without Leading DEX Trading

Canton sits at the opposite end of the market from Solana.

Its $50.09 million in 30-day chain fees places it comfortably at the top of DeFiLlama’s current ranking, followed by Robinhood Chain at $38.49 million, Tron at $24.44 million, Solana at $23.33 million and BSC at $21.58 million.

Yet Canton does not appear among the major chains in DeFiLlama’s public DEX leaderboard. That apparent mismatch stems from what the network was designed to do.

Canton is a privacy-enabled blockchain network aimed at regulated financial institutions and capital markets. Its architecture allows participants to coordinate transactions while controlling which information is visible to each party, an important requirement for markets where positions and transaction details cannot simply be broadcast publicly.

That has positioned Canton around areas such as tokenized securities, collateral management and repo transactions rather than the consumer-facing token swaps that dominate DEX volume on Solana.

Its fee mechanics are different as well. Canton uses traffic fees for network resources, with those fees burned, while its incentive system distributes rewards across network participants. Large institutional transactions can therefore create meaningful network economics without generating billions of dollars of publicly visible DEX turnover.

The result is a useful warning against treating DEX volume as a universal proxy for blockchain usage. Solana and Canton can both rank first while serving largely different markets.

Robinhood Chain’s $38 Million Fee Month Needs Context

Robinhood Chain is much closer to Solana’s public trading model, but its current 30-day numbers contain an unusual period of activity.

The network processed $1.60 billion in DEX trades over the latest 24 hours and $41.28 billion over 30 days, putting its monthly turnover just below Ethereum mainnet. Its seven-day volume is already higher, at $11.33 billion compared with Ethereum’s $9.11 billion.

DeFiLlama also shows $38.49 million in Robinhood Chain fees over 30 days, second only to Canton. The latest daily figure, however, has fallen to $312,597.

A large part of that difference can be traced to activity earlier in September. Reporting at the time linked a sharp fee and trading surge to Pons, a token launchpad that became a major source of activity on Robinhood Chain.
Pons generated nearly $6 million in fees on September 3, followed by a record day for Robinhood Chain fees on September 4. Weekly DEX activity also accelerated sharply around the same period.

The concentration matters when interpreting the $38.49 million monthly figure. A 30-day total can remain elevated for weeks after an exceptional session disappears from the daily data. Robinhood Chain’s current $312,597 daily fee figure therefore gives a very different picture from the rolling monthly total.

It does not erase the growth in DEX activity. With $41.28 billion in 30-day turnover, Robinhood Chain has moved into the same broad trading range as Ethereum mainnet. But the next several weeks will show how much of the fee expansion survives once the early-September Pons spike rolls out of the 30-day window.

Fees Reveal a Different Blockchain Economy Than Trading Volume

BSC provides another example of why the two rankings should not move together.

The network processed $38.04 billion in DEX volume over 30 days, less than half Solana’s total, yet generated $21.58 million in fees, only modestly below Solana’s $23.33 million.

Different fee schedules, transaction types and application mixes mean that one dollar of trading volume does not translate into the same amount of network fees across chains. DEX turnover also captures only one category of blockchain activity.

For Solana, the durability test is whether its lead remains visible beyond a strong month of trading. Robinhood Chain’s next test arrives as the Pons-driven fee spike gradually disappears from its rolling 30-day comparison.

Canton has a different benchmark: whether institutional settlement and tokenized-asset activity can continue generating the industry’s highest chain fees without relying on public DEX turnover.

Those trends will say more about the economics of each network than a single “most active blockchain” ranking.

Source

All news is rigorously fact-checked and reviewed by leading blockchain experts and seasoned industry insiders.
