Wiser, who stepped down from Paramount in May 2026 after a seven-year tenure, has spent his career navigating disruptive tech waves. At Paramount, he spearheaded AI adoption, supported the growth of platforms like Paramount+ and Pluto TV, and modernized enterprise systems. His perspective on AI is clear: it could reshape creative industries and knowledge work with unprecedented speed.<\/p>\n

AI: A ‘Top-Five’ Technology Shift<\/h2>\n

For Wiser, AI belongs to a rare category of innovations that fundamentally lower the cost of human labor. \u201cThis is rapidly decompressing the cost of some forms of knowledge work,\u201d he said, pointing to the multi-trillion-dollar investments flowing into AI as validation of its transformative power. He warned that industries resistant to AI risk being blindsided\u2014much like how the music industry faltered during the Napster era.<\/p>\n

While past tech revolutions like streaming video took decades to mature, the AI wave could be compressed into just 5-10 years\u2014or even less. \u201cGetting it right means you\u2019re going to miss the window,\u201d he said, cautioning against overanalysis at the expense of action.<\/p>\n

At Paramount, Wiser focused on enabling grassroots experimentation with AI, equipping employees with tools like Runway and fostering internal communities to share successes. His mantra: \u201cNever lead with the technology. Start with what someone couldn\u2019t do before and engineer the \u2018aha\u2019 moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Creative Disruption: Threat or Opportunity?<\/h2>\n

Addressing fears of AI replacing human creativity, Wiser argued that tools don\u2019t dictate content quality. \u201cIs the machine forcing you to make bad content? No. Creative license is still in your hands.\u201d He compared AI\u2019s potential to democratize content creation to the era when artists were first freed from needing record labels for studio time and distribution.<\/p>\n

However, he acknowledged the disruption could destabilize traditional creative hierarchies in media. \u201cThose with ideas and vision will be accelerated,\u201d he noted, suggesting that the shift might upend the status quo but ultimately empower creators.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, Wiser encouraged young technologists to focus on building, not just theorizing. \u201cAny young person should go and live in a startup for some amount of time,\u201d he advised, underscoring the urgency of engaging with AI now. \u201cThe time is now.\u201d<\/p>\n
