Anthropic, the $380 billion AI<\/a> safety and research giant, has officially opened its Sydney office as part of its rapid global expansion. Theo Hourmouzis, a seasoned tech executive with over 20 years of experience in the Asia-Pacific region, has been appointed as General Manager for Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). The move underscores Anthropic\u2019s focus on building localized strategies and partnerships in key markets.<\/p>\n

Hourmouzis joins Anthropic from Snowflake, where he held leadership roles across Australia, New Zealand, and ASEAN. At Snowflake, he helped organizations across industries transition AI applications from experimentation to real-world business impact. Speaking about his new role, Hourmouzis noted that “organizations across Australia and New Zealand are thinking carefully about how to adopt AI, and they want partners who take safety and rigor as seriously as they take the opportunity.”<\/p>\n

The Sydney office opening follows a series of major developments for Anthropic, including a $30 billion Series G funding round in February, backed by heavyweights like Amazon and Google. The company has been aggressively expanding its footprint across the Asia-Pacific region, with recent office openings in Tokyo and Bengaluru, and plans for Seoul in the near future.
