Rather than launching governance early and hoping usage would eventually follow, the team says it spent the past few years building products, integrations and revenue streams first. Only now, it argues, is there enough real economic activity on the network to make onchain governance meaningful rather than symbolic.

Ran Hammer, Orbs’ chief business officer, framed it bluntly. Governance, he said, only works when there is something real to govern.

The protocol now points to a fairly established operating base. Its suite of Layer-3 trading products includes dLIMIT, dTWAP, Liquidity Hub, Perpetual Hub and dSLTP. Across those tools, the ecosystem says it has processed more than $3 billion in cumulative trading volume and generated over $3 million in protocol revenue. It also supports more than 30 decentralized exchange integrations across multiple chains and is secured by over 1 billion staked ORBS.

A seasonal model gives tokenomics room to change

The DAO will oversee some of the protocol’s most important levers, including revenue deployment, token economics, network upgrades, validator oversight and ecosystem grants. That includes decisions around how fee income is used, how staking rewards are structured, how supply mechanisms evolve and how liquidity is allocated.

One of the more unusual features is the governance design itself. Orbs says the DAO will operate through seasonal cycles, allowing the community to revisit priorities and tokenomics on a recurring basis instead of locking in long-term parameters too rigidly.

The rollout will begin with two votes. The first will set the DAO’s core structure, including voting mechanisms and operational rules. The second will focus on Season 1 tokenomics, including how revenue may be divided between token burns, staking incentives, liquidity provisioning and treasury reserves.

For Orbs, the launch extends an existing governance base built around Guardians and Delegators into something broader, and more political in the protocol sense. The question now is not whether the community gets a voice. It is how actively it chooses to use it.

Source

Orbs has launched its DAO, beginning a phased rollout that will move protocol decision-making to the community in the coming weeks.
