One judge sided with Custodia Bank, stating that a master account is \u201cindispensable\u201d for a bank\u2019s day-to-day operations and being denied one is \u201cakin to a death sentence.\u201d<\/p>\n

A US federal court has rejected Custodia Bank\u2019s final attempt to challenge the Federal Reserve\u2019s authority over granting master accounts \u2014 effectively ending the crypto-focused bank\u2019s five-year-long battle for direct access to the central bank\u2019s payment system.<\/p>\n

The US Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit said<\/a> in a filing on Friday that it wouldn\u2019t hear Custodia’s final appeal<\/a> on that point in a 7-3 vote.<\/p>\n

Custodia first applied for a master account in October 2020, which allows financial institutions to hold reserves directly at the Federal Reserve and access its payment rails, enabling them to settle transactions without relying on intermediary banks.<\/p>\n
