US President Donald Trump said Friday he will nominate former Federal Reserve Governor Kevin Warsh to succeed Jerome Powell as chair of the US central bank, setting the stage for a high-stakes Senate confirmation battle.<\/p>\n

The decision, announced<\/a> by Trump on his social media platform Truth Social, confirmed Thursday reports<\/a> that Trump would move ahead with the 55\u2011year\u2011old ex\u2013Fed official and Morgan Stanley banker as his preferred candidate.<\/p>\n

The president said that he had known Warsh for a long time and had \u201cno doubt\u201d that he would go down as \u201cone of the \u201cGREAT Fed chairmen, maybe the best.\u201d<\/p>\n
