The US president said he supported the GENIUS Act because it was “politically popular,\u201d\u00a0but added the main reason was in response to China.<\/p>\n

US President Donald Trump used part of his speech addressing the crowd at the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Wednesday to discuss the motivations behind his crypto policies, saying China\u2019s regulatory landscape was a factor.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a Wednesday speech at the WEF\u2019s annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, Trump said<\/a> he supported the signing of the payment stablecoin-focused legislation, the GENIUS Act, in July because it was \u201cpolitically good\u201d and \u201cChina wanted that market, too.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201c[I]t is politically popular,\u201d said Trump on crypto. \u201cBut it\u2019s, much more importantly, we have to make it so that China doesn\u2019t get the hold of it. And once they have that hold, we\u2019re not going to be able to get it back.\u201d<\/p>\n
