In their December 5 notice, the agencies<a href=\"https:\/\/e.vnexpress.net\/news\/tech\/tech-news\/7-chinese-financial-associations-label-pi-network-cryptocurrency-valueless-4991247.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> stated<\/a> on December 8:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"686\" data-end=\"964\">\n<p data-start=\"688\" data-end=\"964\">They use the guise of stablecoins, valueless coins (like Pi Coin), real\u2011world asset tokens, and \u2018mining\u2019 to engage in illegal fundraising, pyramid schemes and transfer of profits from these illegal activities through virtual assets.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 data-start=\"971\" data-end=\"1013\"><strong data-start=\"971\" data-end=\"1011\">Formal Disapproval and Market Impact<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1015\" data-end=\"1495\">Despite a recent 16% price jump, as highlighted in our coverage, following the Pi Network\u2019s alignment with ISO 20022 global financial standards alongside Ripple and Stellar, official disapproval could limit Pi Coin\u2019s use in China.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1015\" data-end=\"1495\">The joint notice, according to a South China Morning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/tech\/policy\/article\/3335440\/7-chinese-industry-bodies-issue-rwa-tokenisation-warning-amid-beijings-crackdown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post<\/a>, also emphasizes the token\u2019s centralized, closed-network structure and warned it is prone to misuse for illegal fundraising and pyramid-style schemes.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1502\" data-end=\"1556\"><strong data-start=\"1502\" data-end=\"1554\">Bitcoin and Broader Crypto Market Under Scrutiny<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1558\" data-end=\"1997\">As already mentioned above, while the warning targets Pi Coin in specific, it also reflects the China\u2019s broader concern over speculative cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin. This is why the PBOC and other regulators continue to stress that virtual currencies are not legal tender, and any trading or related business is illegal.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1558\" data-end=\"1997\">For example, we <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crypto-news-flash.com\/china-ranks-top-3-bitcoin-mining-centers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that China remains one of the top three global Bitcoin mining hubs despite the national ban imposed in 2021.
